چکیده

Neural systems adapt to background levels of stimulation. Adaptive gain control has been extensively studied in sensory systems but overlooked in decision-theoretic models. Here, we describe evidence for adaptive gain control during the serial integration of decision-relevant information. Human observers judged the average information provided by a rapid stream of visual events (samples). The impact that each sample wielded over choices depended on its consistency with the previous sample, with more consistent or expected samples wielding the greatest influence over choice. This bias was also visible in the encoding of decision information in pupillometric signals and in cortical responses measured with functional neuroimaging. These data can be accounted for with a serial sampling model in which the gain of information processing adapts rapidly to reflect the average of the available evidence.

Adaptive Fuzzy Dynamic Sliding Mode Control of Nonlinear Systems

Two phenomena can produce chattering: switching of input control signal and the large amplitude of this switching (switching gain). To remove the switching of input control signal, dynamic sliding mode control (DSMC) is used. In DSMC switching is removed due to the integrator which is placed before the plant. However, in DSMC the augmented system (system plus the integrator) is one dimension bi...

Peaking Attenuation in High-Gain Observers Using Adaptive Saturation: Application to a Ball and Wheel System

Despite providing robustness, high-gain observers impose a peaking phenomenon, which may cause instability, on the system states. In this paper, an adaptive saturation is proposed to attenuate the undesirable mentioned phenomenon in high-gain observers. A real-valued and differentiable sigmoid function is considered as the saturating element whose parameters (height and slope) are adaptively tu...

Precision and neuronal dynamics in the human posterior parietal cortex during evidence accumulation

Primate studies show slow ramping activity in posterior parietal cortex (PPC) neurons during perceptual decision-making. These findings have inspired a rich theoretical literature to account for this activity. These accounts are largely unrelated to Bayesian theories of perception and predictive coding, a related formulation of perceptual inference in the cortical hierarchy. Here, we tested a k...

Design and Implementation of a High-Precision Position Controller for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Based on a New Gain Scheduling Approach

The direct drive permanent magnet synchronous motor (DD-PMSM) is a suitable choice for high-precision position control applications. Among various control methods of this motor, the vector control approaches especially the field oriented control has a high-performance in the industrial drives. In this method, the components of stator current are controlled independently and as a result, the tor...

A Perceptual Distortion Metric for Digital Color Video

In this paper I present a distortion metric for color video sequences. It is based on a contrast gain control model of the human visual system that incorporates spatial and temporal aspects of vision as well as color perception. The model achieves a close fit to contrast sensitivity and contrast masking data from several different psychophysical experiments for both luminance and color stimuli....
